Quagmire

Every day, Greece is crushed between fantasy and self-interest, as well as numerous other problems which, like millstones, grind down whatever efforts there may be to take the next step toward even the smallest degree of revival and rejuvenation. Trapped between such forces, the country is suspended, paralyzed in a state not of survival but of decline.

One Friday evening I was informed that former president Costis Stephanopoulos was trying to contact me. I was told that he had telephoned in person and wanted to speak to me urgently.

The ratification by Parliament of a bill for the privatization of the former airport plot at Elliniko, on the southern coast of Athens, is a very positive development, and particularly so as it was backed by a significant majority of MPs.

Turkey has not only been dragged into the Middle East quagmire, but it has also dragged the quagmire onto its own soil, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said
