Reforestation

The government Thursday pledged to reforest the areas scorched by the devastating wildfire east of Athens early this week.

Alternate Environment Minister Sokratis Famelos told Sto Kokkino radio station that authorities were collecting aerial photos of the burned areas and all available legal data regarding buildings and planning in order to designate the areas for tree-planting.

Vandals have cut off 29 of the 240 newly planted trees in Sofia's Ring Road, Nova TV reported. The acacia seedlings were planted last month. The trees were cut low to the ground.

As a part of a reforestation initiative that is already under way, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has pledged to plant 400,000 trees and shrubs in areas of northern Greece. According to TAP, the company has undertaken to reforest land which has been cleared and graded during the installation of the pipeline.

A folk song composed by Turkey’s forestry minister will be used in a campaign to support the reforestation of burnt forest lands in the Ayvalık district of the western province of Balıkesir, daily Habertürk has reported.

Over 120 000 trees will be planted near Sofia's quarter Suhodol, reports Mediapool. 

The new forest in Sofia should be plantet there and the Municipality of Sofia have already named their initiative. The planting of the first part of the plants starts this Saturday at 11 am, the local administration said.

Over 1500 trees will be planted in Sofia. The landscaping will be both in the central part of the city and in the inter-building spaces and schools. Climate-resistant trees are planted, such as clear, silver linden, red oak. The species have been chosen by experts from the University of Forestry, assured the Municipality of Sofia, DARIK reported.

The General Directorate of Forestry announced on Aug. 26 the reforestation of the burned forest land in the Ayvalık district of the western province of Balıkesir.

More than 1.5 million volunteers turned out on Sunday between 7am and 7pm to plant the massive number of tree saplings along the Narmada River in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The first one is in İzmir's Urla district, in Kadıova, with 2,094 saplings, while the second one is in Balıkesir's Bahçedere district with 3,685 saplings; two huge forests.
