Crete bracing for storms
Authorities in Crete are advising residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution on Friday, as weather forecasts warn of powerful storms hitting the island.
The fire service advised residents to clear gutters and balcony drains, but also to avoid walking or driving in any areas where there are even the smallest signs of possible flooding.

Cretan Cities: The Testimony of the Coins | Crete | To December 15
The Museum of Ancient Eleutherna's temporary exhibition "Cretan Cities: The Testimony of the Coins" showcases Cretan history through a collection of ancient coins. The exhibit, organized by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Rethymno, the University of Crete and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, includes 124 ancient coins and a detailed catalogue in Greek and English.
Man who dragged dog with car arrested in Crete
A 73-year-old man was arrested in the town of Rethymno on the island of Crete for tying a dog to the back of his car and dragging it along a road.
The man, who faces charges of animal cruelty, was tracked down by police after a witness posted a photo of the incident, showing the vehicle's license plate, on social media.

Tax inspectors come under attack on Crete
Two tax inspectors came under attack in the Cretan port of Rethymno on Wednesday after attempting to conduct a check on a truck driver.
After the inspectors asked to see his goods and invoices, the driver allegedly lashed out at them inspectors - a 58-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman.

The new highway across northern Crete, from Hania (pictured) to Aghios Nikolaos, will run along a new route for 141 of its 192 kilometers, Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis announced on the island on Wednesday.

Three rescued after car plunges off cliff in Crete
A woman and her two children on Tuesday were pulled out of a car that fell off a cliff at a rural road in the regional unit of Rethymno, northern Crete.
According to initial information, the woman was driving on the road linking Sisses with Aloides when she lost control of the vehicle and plunged from a height of about 80 meters.

Cannabis farm found in Rethymno, 1 arrest
A 27-year-old man was being questioned over the weekend in connection with a cannabis plantation discovered in the region of Rethymno, northern Crete, on Friday.
Following a police operation in the area, authorities reportedly determined that the suspect had planted 546 cannabis trees on a farm.
According to police, the plantation was in a rural area of Mylopotamos.

Jail terms for 12 kidnappers
A court on Crete Thursday convicted all 12 suspects in the abduction of businessman Michalis Lembidakis in March 2017. They received prison terms ranging from 11 to 26 years and four months.
All 12 suspects were convicted of abduction and attempted blackmail.
