Sailing boat abandoned near Skopelos after signaling SOS
A touristic sailing boat was abandoned Thursday at noon off the island of Skopelos due to a problematic rudder.
According to local news site skiathoslife.gr, the sailing boat had ten passengers on board and signaled SOS after realizing the issue. A commercial Seajet vessel happened to be passing nearby and was called to the rescue. The coast guard also rushed to the scene.
Briton found dead in Spetses
A 44-year-old British national was found dead at the old port of Spetses on Friday morning, state-run news agency AMNA reported.
Authorities said he had sustained injuries on the left side of his head and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. His body will be transferred to Piraeus this afternoon.

First sailing race of 2024 held in the Bosphorus
The Bahçeşehir University (BAU) Bosphorus Sailing Cup, which was the first sailboat race of 2024 in the Bosphorus, took place on May 4 and 5.
In the competition, 42 sailboats culminated in the Bosphorus for the fourth stage of the Bahçeşehir University International Sailing Club's Spring Trophy, with a buoy course between Caddebostan and Prince's Islands.

Fall and winter shrinking due to climate change
Climate change is effectively reducing the year's seasons to two, according to the head of the Greek Meteorological Society.
"We have observed the expansion of summer into the fall, while winter - especially the winter of 2023 - is showing higher temperatures, mainly because of climate change," Panagiotis Nastos told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

Athletic team breaks Türkiye tour sailing record using wind power
Drawing attention with a low carbon footprint, a team of professional athletes from Fenerbahçe Doğuş Sailing broke the Türkiye Tour Record, organized by the Turkish Sailing Federation (TYF), by sailing across Türkiye in 10 days, two hours and 47 minutes with only wind power.
Russian Ferry Collided with another Vessel off Bulgaria's Cape Shabla
The ferry "Slavyanin" has collided with another vessel east of Cape Shabla and is currently sailing towards Varna. No one was injured in the incident, and there was no fuel spillage.
"Slavyanin" sails under the flag of the Russian Federation. It transports gas in railway tanks from Russia to Bulgaria, and after its stay in Varna it left for the Caucasus.
Sailing boat with more than 100 people on board identified off Pylos
A sailing boat with more than 100 people on board has been identified 43 nautical miles southwest of Pylos on Friday.
Four nearby vessels and a Hellenic Air Force are moving towards the sailing boat, along with three Hellenic Coast Guard ships.
There are strong northern winds in the area.
