Austria's Conservatives and Right-Wing Populists Agree on Coalition Government

 Austria's conservatives and right-wing populists on Friday agreed to form a coalition government nearly seven weeks after the October 15 election, Deutsche Welle reports. 

People's Party (ÖVP) leader Sebastian Kurz will become the next chancellor and Freedom Party (FPÖ) head Heinz-Christian Strache will become vice-chancellor.

31-year-old Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, a rising star of the conservative People's Party, is about to become Austria's next chancellor, according to the first forecast after today's parliamentary elections.

Kurtz will be the youngest leader in Europe, the youngest chancellor in the new history of Austria, and only the third Christian Democrat in this post.

The conservative People’s Party (OVP), led by 31-year-old Sebastian Kurz, is projected to finish first in Austria’s snap parliamentary election, according to exit polls that suggest a clear shift to the right.

The latest forecasts showed centre-right OVP holding onto first place, winning 31.5 percent of Sunday’s vote.

Kurz: Comparisons with Catalonia useless, dialogue must continue

VIENNA - There is no particular use in comparing Kosovo to Catalonia, and Belgrade's dialogue with Pristina must be continued as progress in that dialogue is of great significance for Serbia's EU path, says Austrian FM Sebastian Kurz.

"I see no added value in comparing the situation concerning Catalonia to that in Kosovo," Kurz told Tanjug in an interview.
