Shadow Cabinet of Alexis Tsipras

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's two-day visit to Athens is taking place in a completely different political environment than the last one in April 2014. Then, Alexis Tsipras had described the visit as a stunt aimed at "showing support for her representative Mr [Antonis] Samaras."

Speaking in a special plenary session before the Greek parliament on occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the 1973 student uprising against the military junta, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras commented that the government was giving a battle to “restore democracy” in the country, which had been crushed by the “memorandums and foreign control”.

If there is one electoral promise that most political leaders in Greece failed to honor once elected to power, it is the size of their cabinet. As far as I remember, the commitment for a smaller, more efficient and less costly cabinet was the common denominator of all Greek parties' programs.

Speaking at his party’s central committee, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras defended the recent TV law passed in parliament, claiming it was the answer to “unconstitutionality”.

The findings of an opinion poll by Public Issue, conducted on behalf of leftist newspaper Avgi, put New Democracy significantly ahead of SYRIZA and indicate that a majority of Greeks are seriously dissatisfied.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras questioned the ND leader’s pledge to cut taxes saying that New Democracy didn’t implement this while it was in power.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis accused, today, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of misleading the Greek people.
Mr Mitsotakis said Tsipras was “openly mocking” the Greek people and referred to the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition as an “inefficient” and “obsessive” administration.

SYRIZA’s Central Committee meeting ended on Sunday with the adoption of a draft resolution with conclusions on crucial policy issues. The final draft, after a two-day meeting, included proposed amendments. It was also decided that the party’s congress would be held in mid-April.

“I am an active politician in my country” former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said during an interview with La Razon.

Mr. Samaras lashed out at the government and Prime Minister alexis Tsipras saying “Tsipras destroyed the positive p[perspectives for Greece, which were created by our government during the previous 2.5 years.”

The Main opposition conservative New Democracy party called on Greece’s Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday to explain a report in Greek daily Ta Nea that claims the Municipality of Aegina wrote off a 4,000-euro debt belonging to State Minister Alekos Flambouraris – who owns a holiday home on the island – towards the water utility company.
