Greek seafarer dies in ship accident

A 57-year-old Greek seafarer was fatally injured while serving on a commercial vehicle carrier during its route from Ouranoupoli to Daphne on Mount Athos in northeastern Greece.

The accident occurred when a truck, which was improperly secured, shifted and struck the ship's chief engineer as the vessel was departing.

Curfew in forested Halkidiki areas

Vice-Regional Governor of Halkidiki, Katerina Zografou, announced on Wednesday a pedestrian and vehicle curfew from 8 am to 8 pm on Thursday in wooded areas of Halkidiki that are at high risk for wildfires.

In particular, this will affect the Kassandra and Sithonia peninsulas, as well as the Aristoteli municipality.

A fire in a grassy area broke out shortly before 11 a.m. on the Greek peninsula of Sithonia in Halkidiki.
According to the Greek Kathimerini, the fire broke out between Metamorfosi and Nikiti.
There are 37 firefighters on the scene with 12 vehicles, including two fire engines from Bulgaria, with 10 people.
A helicopter was dispatched to this area.

Halkidiki fire brought under partial control

A wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in a forested area of Sithonia, one of the three peninsulas of Halkidiki, northern Greece, was brought under partial control a few hours later, the fire service said.

A 30-strong team of firefighters with 11 vehicles is in the area of Pigadakia since the start of the blaze.
