The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) is the government that has come closest to solving Turkey's Kurdish problem. It is also the government that has helped bring the prospect of an "independent Kurdish state" closest to reality, though obviously this is an unintended consequence of its mistaken policies.

Jailed HDP co-chair Demirtaş slams Erdoğan over 'terrorist' claims

Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has penned a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the latter accused him of being a "terrorist." 

In the letter publicized by his lawyers on June 10, Demirtaş stated that with his comments, Erdoğan had "proven his influence" over the case the HDP is being tried in.

A delegation of the People's Democratic Party (HDP) in the Turkish parliament is expected to meet Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ on April 3 to discuss the decision by jailed HDP co-chairman Selahattin Demirtaş to go on hunger strike, together with another MP, Abdullah Zeydan, in protest at prison conditions, HDP deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder said in an interview with Fox TV Turkey on March 31.

A prosecutor who called on National Intelligence Agency (MİT) Chief Hakan Fidan to provide testimony in 2012 has been arrested on charges of links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which is widely believed to have masterminded the July 2016 failed coup attempt. 

11 PKK positions destroyed in N Iraq, says Turkish army

The Turkish army destroyed 11 outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) positions in airstrikes against the terrorist group in northern Iraq, the Turkish military said late on Jan. 6.

According to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff, fighter jets carried out the airstrikes in the Qandil region of northern Iraq on Jan. 6 between 6:58 and 7:55 p.m. (3:58 and 4:55 p.m. GMT).
