Spata leases airplane to bring back school children on trip to France
The eastern Attica Municipality of Spata-Artemida has leased an airplane to bring back a group of students and teachers from the local high school who are on a trip to France so that they may avoid the return journey by bus via Italy.
Police smash large drugs racket in Athens
A large drug cartel operating primarily in the Athens suburbs of Acharnes and Fyli has been unraveled by Attica police authorities.
Police said the cartel consisted of seven gangs that worked under the guidance of two criminal organizations.

Police launch manhunt for Spata burglars
Police on Friday were seeking three armed men who forced their way into a house in Spata, eastern Attica, on Thursday night and threatened an elderly couple and their housekeeper.
The robbers, who had their faces covered, rang the doorbell at around 9.30 p.m. and when the door was opened, barged in and threatened the three victims at gunpoint.

Three people held up in their house in eastern Attica
Three armed men forced their way into a home in Spata, eastern Attica, on Thursday night and held up a senior couple and their housekeeper, police said Friday.
The robbers, who had their faces covered, rang the house's door bell at around 21.30 p.m. and when the door opened, they barged in and pointed a gun against the three people who live in the property.
Zoo hits out at 'hypocrisy' over Jaguar deaths
The Attica Zoological Park at Spata, west of Athens, has accused its critics of "hypocrisy" over the fatal shooting of two rare jaguars that escaped from their enclosure in November.
The incident, which was announced on Saturday, triggered criticism of the zoo by the Panhellenic Animal Welfare and Environmental Federation and Giorgos Amyras, a lawmaker for To Potami.

Sailboats compete in the 9th Posidonia Cup
Sailboats are seen off the Bay of Faliro Friday taking part in the 9th Posidonia Cup, a race that is held ahead of the biennial Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition. This year a total of 500 yachtsmen, including sailing champions and major names in international shipping, are participating in the race with 58 vessels.

Mesogeia robbery ring smashed
A robbery ring believed to have used stolen cars to carry out burglaries and store thefts in the Mesogeia area has been broken, police said on Monday.
Officers arrested seven people, aged between 20 and 46, including two minors, in raids in Pallini and Spata.
According to police, the racket had been operating since last October.

German activists to sue Attica zoo over dolphin display
A German animal rights group said on Wednesday that it plans to file a lawsuit against the Attica Zoological Park in Spata, east of Athens, over its alleged "criminal" treatment of dolphins.
