Heavy rain and flooding wreaked havoc in Istanbul, Türkiye's largest city, hitting the north of the province particularly hard on Aug. 27.

Crews have managed to extinguish a fire that broke out in a 123-year-old restaurant in Istanbul's famous Spice Bazaar, with no casualties or injuries reported.
The conflagration ignited at approximately 10 a.m. on May 15 in the chimney of the historic Pandeli Restaurant in the bazaar in Eminönü, for reasons yet to be ascertained.

With only a few days left until Eid al-Fitr, people have started thronging the shops in Istanbul's Eminönü district, famous for traditional Turkish delight and Ottomon-inspired sweets, to do holiday shopping.

As preparations for Ramadan are ongoing, in Eminönü, flamboyant candies, chocolates and Turkish delights have taken their place on the counters.

Torrential rains have lashed several parts of Türkiye, with the metropolitan city of Istanbul bearing the brunt the most as its world-famous Grand Bazaar has filled with flood water.

Following the torrential rain warnings issued for 17 provinces, including Istanbul, the expected rain hit the metropolitan city on Aug. 15.

Many Istanbulites spent their weekend shopping at malls, souvenir shops and dried nuts sellers in the Spice Bazaar to complete their preparations for New Year's celebrations.

Forty-five electrical panels two-meters-long have been placed on the outer walls of Istanbul’s Spice Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı or Egyptian Bazaar) located near the iconic Hagia Sophia Museum and the Blue Mosque in Istanbul’s Eminönü neighborhood.

For the first time in its history as an epicenter of trade and commerce in Istanbul, the Grand Bazaar is being used for a concert in the prestigious annual summer Istanbul Music Festival

A comprehensive restoration of Istanbul's historic Spice Bazaar, located near the iconic Hagia Sophia Museum and Blue Mosque, has been completed. 

Turkey today might be doing its best to pave over Istanbul in concrete, but the city continues to resist, maintaining its status as the most beautiful in the world, said prominent travel writer and guide Saffet Emre Tonguç.

One of Istanbul's iconic names, the 115-year-old famous Pandeli Restaurant situated in the Spice Bazaar has been closed for the last three months. 

Restoration works that have been going on for a long time in the Spice Bazaar and the crisis which hit the tourism sector negatively, have removed the oxygen from this famous turquoise-tiled restaurant.
