The Turkish government submitted a new draft law to parliament on April 9 to hand down harsher sentences to those convicted of sex offences against children, proposing to increase jail terms to 40 years and introduce chemical castration for such offenses.

The Romanian parliament is set to debate a bill on 'chemical castration' for sex offenders again, after a police officer was prosecuted for several assaults on minors. 

Romania's parliament is to again debate 'chemical castration' as an optional sentence for sex offenders after a police officer was caught on camera assaulting two children in January.

Turkey's Council of State has stopped the execution of a regulation on chemical castration, which was introduced last year against sex offenders, on the grounds that it can "lead to hard-to-recover and unrepairable damages."

The head of Macedonia's Directorate of Sanctions, the office in charge of prisons, Lidija Gavrilovska, said they were pondering building a separate prison for paedophiles - after checking to see whether this would be in line with European Union standards.
