Thessaly in central Greece and the Sporades Islands off Evia were the regions affected by the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that swept in on Friday, the National Observatory of Athens' weather service Meteo said on Saturday.

A delegation of 15 farmers from the flood-hit region of Thessaly in Central Greece is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens on Monday. 

Greece needs to make space for river flow and boost defenses in the Thessaly Plain, a key breadbasket, to prevent a repeat of last year's devastating floods, experts have advised the government.

The Mediterranean country has been buffeted by floods and wildfires in recent years, raising concerns about its ability to defend against climate change-related weather events.

Most of the farmers are determined to continue their mobilizations; however, some now believe that further escalation is not going to yield the results they want.

Thessaly farmers announced on Wednesday their decision to lift a tractor roadblock but underlined they remain unsatisfied and request a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
