Five drownings in 24 hours

Five people have drowned while swimming in the last 24 hours, the coast guard has said.

On Thursday evening, a 75-year-old man was removed unconscious from the sea in Vrachati, Corinthia. He was transferred to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Wildfire erupts in rural area in central Greece

A significant mobilization of firefighting forces is underway in Fthiotida, southeastern Thessaly, to combat a blaze that ignited in a rural area.

The fire erupted in Anidro Stylida, prompting an extensive response from both ground and aerial units.

Currently, 36 firefighters, along with two teams of foot patrols and 11 vehicles, are involved in the firefighting efforts.

Man, 41, dies after brawl at Roma settlement

Two suspects are being questioned after a 41-year-old man died following a brawl that broke out at a Roma settlement in Pelasgia, in Greece's Fthiotida region.
Witnesses said the fight started when the two 33-year-old twin brothers accused the victim of stealing wood at the settlement. During the fight, the 41-year-old was fatally struck in the head with a pickaxe.
