A Hatay court has held the initial hearing of the case involving alleged negligence in the construction of the Rönesans Residence, in which over 260 people died in last year's devastating earthquakes in the country's south.

Turkey on May 7 remembered Haldun Taner, pioneer of Turkish cabaret theater, on his 34th death anniversary.

Taner, also a renowned playwright and short story writer, was born on May 16, 1915, in Istanbul to a family of bureaucrat Ahmet Selahattin Bey and Seza Hanım.

As the novel coronavirus continues to take its toll on lives and forces many countries to impose quarantines, many major events, such as the Venice Biennale and Coachella, have been postponed. 

No big event in Turkey has been postponed yet, as it has one coronavirus-positive case confirmed so far.   

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) for the 27th time this year, the "Istanbul Jazz Festival" will meet music enthusiasts between June 27 and July 14.
The festival, which will host over 300 local and foreign artists, will be held in 27 different venues of Istanbul.

A new museum displaying the personal belongings and works of drama writer, educator and journalist Haldun Taner, who lived between 1915 and 1986, has opened in the Fenerbahçe district of Istanbul. 

An Istanbul court on Jan. 31 ordered the release of Taner Kılıç, the Turkey head of international rights group Amnesty International.

Since Turkey's July 2016 coup attempt, almost 50,000 people have been arrested, 140,000 have been fired or suspended from their jobs, 1,500 civil society organizations have been closed, and over 150 media outlets have been shuttered.
