Cumhuriyet trials set litmus test for Turkish democracy
It was an ironic coincidence that more than a dozen executives and journalists from the daily Cumhuriyet appeared in court on Press Freedom Day. Twelve out of 17 have been in prison since November 2016 and it took nine months for them to defend themselves in court.
Intelligence and July 15 coup attempt
"July 15 has compiled several lessons for us to draw from," is the starting sentence of former National Security Organization (MİT) undersecretary Emre Taner's opinion on the intelligence gap concerning last year's coup attempt. Taner served between the years 2005 and 2010.

A rental agreement for a hall in Germany in which former Energy Minister Taner Yıldız was set to deliver a speech on March 6 has been canceled amid increasing tension between Berlin and Ankara over the cancelation of Turkish ministers' speeches in the country.
Cevdet Erek to represent Turkey in Venice
"ÇIN," a new work by Cevdet Erek, will be presented at the Pavilion of Turkey at the 57th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia to be held from May 13 to Nov. 26.
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the Turkish pavilion is located at Sale d'Armi, Arsenale, in the main venue of the biennale.

Istanbul-themed souvenirs at gallery
Gallery Istanbul1881, which opened two years ago to contribute to Istanbul's promotion in national and international platforms, presents souvenirs featuring British painter Ned Pamphilon's vivid Istanbul colors and Turkey's world renowned miniature artist Taner Alakuş's historic tissues. The works can be found at the gallery in the Kadıköy neighborhood.

Taner Alakuş exhibition at CKM
Miniature artist Taner Alakuş's third solo exhibition, 'Auto portrait,' curated by Ceylan Harmancı, will open at the Caddebostan Culture Center Art Gallery on Oct 20.
The exhibition can be visited through Nov 20.
