Turkish defense giants devote huge budgets to R&D

Managers of Turkey's largest defense companies underlined the importance of research and development activities during a panel in Turkey's major defense event.

Speaking at SAHA EXPO, managers said their firms allocate a significant amount of budget for R&D activities.

The four-day event kicked off on Nov. 10. 

Turkish Aerospace inks deal with Ukrainian firm to buy helicopter engines

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has inked a deal with Ukraine's Motor Sich to purchase 14 heavy class attack helicopter engines.

According to a statement from TAI on June 29, the deliveries will be completed by 2025 with the first two engines to be handed over in September 2022.

Turkish Aerospace building huge subsonic wind tunnel

Turkey's state-run aviation company, Turkish Aerospace (TAI), is building Europe's second-largest subsonic wind tunnel for testing the country's fighter jets.

"The wind tunnel is intended to be used in the development of indigenous, rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, especially the Turkish Fighter," a press release read on June 18. 

Turkish aircraft firm sets sights on supersonic UAV

The Turkish Aircraft Industries (TAİ) has a 380-kph-capacity unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the works, according to its CEO.
TAİ, which introduced the new Aksungur 180-kph UAV at last week's International Defense Industry Expo (IDEF'19) in Istanbul, is working on a supersonic UAV called Goksungur, Temel Kotil told Anadolu Agency.
