Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli has followed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other senior government officials in slamming European Parliament President Martin Schulz over his suggestion of economic sanctions against Turkey, declaring his party's support for a Brexit-like referendum on the negotiation process of Turkey's EU membership.

After the meeting with Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, the process about the presidential system has started.

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has voiced its support for reinstating capital punishment, if the Justice and Development Party (AKP) puts forward a constitutional amendment. 

"The people want [the implementation] of the death penalty. If the AKP is ready, the MHP has always been ready," MHP head Devlet Bahçeli told his party's lawmakers on Nov. 1. 

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) expelled a three-member emergency convention delegation from the party on Sept. 21, according to central disciplinary board member Halil Öztürk.

The embattled leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, has expressed support for stripping "terrorist sympathizers" of their citizenship, a proposal voiced by President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, while he also criticized a German comedian who read out a crude poem about Erdo?an on German TV for "insulting" the president.

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Turkey has been embroiled in serious turbulence since the Nov. 1, 2015 election, when the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) managed to regain its parliamentary majority to form a single party government. The AK Parti's victory came after it dropped the ball in the June 7 election.
