MHP gives blank check to AKP in anti-terror fight

The leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has given a blank check to the government on terrorism, announcing that it will readily do its part in parliament if the ruling party continues behaving in line with "national sensitivities" against terrorism. "I note with determination and an open heart that the Turkish people will not be defeated and handed over to terror.

A meeting between Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) leader, Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu, and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Jan. 4 ended with a consensus to work on a new constitution, while the latter clearly voiced his party's firm objection to a transition into a presidential system.

MHP's candidate announced as first runner for parliament speaker post

Soon after taking his oath with other members of the newly elected national assembly on Nov. 17, a high-profile Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy has applied to run as a candidate for the post of parliament speaker, Turkey's second most senior position in state protocol.

The Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP) recent Ankara rally was considerably weaker than the one it staged before the June 7 election. 

I don't know whether security concerns had any effect on the weak turnout, but while I was wandering around the sparse crowd I saw traces of anger toward MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, making the picture clearer. 

MHP excludes Ak?ener, Türke? on candidate list, Türke? resigns

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) of Turkey has not nominated Deputy Prime Minister Tu?rul Türke?, who was expelled from the party after accepting an offer to join the country?s interim cabinet, and former Deputy Parliament Speaker Meral Ak?ener, when it submitted candidate list for the Nov. 1 snap elections on Sept. 18.
