Parliament to elect its new speaker

The parliament will elect its new speaker on June 7, as Numan Kurtulmuş has applied as the joint candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

The five-day nomination process for the election of the speaker concluded on June 6 at 12 a.m. 

On June 7, the 600 members of the parliament will gather to elect the 30th speaker.

President Erdoğan, MHP leader hold meeting

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 18 had a meeting with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli.

The meeting came following the introduction of a 100-article constitutional draft by the MHP on May 4.

In February, Erdoğan urged all political parties to participate in drafting a new constitution, with Bahçeli voicing the agreement.

MHP slams establishment of new political parties

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Dec. 17 slammed the search for establishing new political parties in Turkey, dubbing the moves as a "conspiration."

In a written statement, Bahçeli said "the complicated and dirty actions" of those who want to "sabotage" the politics have accelerated and have become widespread recently.

Erdoğan to AKP and MHP grassroots: Don't harm 'People's Alliance'

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on the grassroots of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) to not give any damage to the two parties' "People's Alliance," after the MHP leader also blasted rumblings of discontent in both parties.
