Turkish Airlines to become one of top 4 airlines in 10 years

Turkish Airlines will become the fourth largest airline in the world with 810 airplanes in the next 10 years, says Ahmet Bolat, chairman of the board of directors.

In 2005, when the flag carrier had only 65 airlines, big European airlines considered Turkish Airlines a "boutique airline," Bolat said.

Turkish Airlines carries over 57 million passengers in 8 months

The number of passengers Turkish Airlines carried in January-July increased by 2.5 percent from a year ago to 57.4 million.

The international passenger tally rose by 2.9 percent year-on-year in the first eight months to 36.3 million, while the domestic passenger tally increased 1.8 percent annually to a little more than 21 million.

US and Russia reportedly agree on historic prisoner swap amid election-year stakes

The National Intelligence Agency (MİT) said on Aug. 1 it has coordinated an extensive prisoner swap between the United States, Russia and other countries.

The exchange of 26 individuals took place in Esenboğa Airport in the Turkish capital Ankara on Aug. 1. Both countries have deployed their planes to Esenboğa Airport through the mediation of the MİT personnel.

THY secures yuan financing for new aircraft

Turkish Airlines (THY) has become the first airline outside the People's Republic of China to finance aircraft with Chinese yuan. 

According to a statement from the company, three Airbus A350 aircraft, which joined THY's fleet in May and July, were financed in Chinese Yuan through AVIC International Leasing and CCB Financial Leasing.
