Slovenia becomes ECOSOC member
Slovenia became a member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the start of the year. This three-year membership is Slovenia's first of the body, which coordinates economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainable development.

UN foresees global economy to contract 0.9% in 2020
The global economy could shrink 0.9% this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs (U.N. DESA) said on April 1.
The world output could contract further if imposed restrictions on economic activities extend to the third quarter, and fiscal responses fail to support income and consumer spending, the U.N. body said.
UN: The Global Migrant Number Rose to 272 Million Globally in 2019
The total number of migrants worldwide has reached approximately 272 million this year, which is 51 million more than in 2010. At present, migrants make up 3.5% of the global population, compared to 2.8% in 2000. Data are from the United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs (UN DESA).
