Co-chair of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) Vasile Blaga on Friday said an aye for the motion of censure against Prime Minister Victor Ponta is a solution of utmost urgency to the national interest of Romania, telling to Ponta that he should learn from Moldova's prime minister and step down.

The co-chairperson of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Alina Gorghiu, has stated on Friday, in the plenum of Parliament, during the debate on the motion of censure, that MPs have the chance to prove that the Legislative "is not solidary with abuse and hypocrisy" and appealed to the deputies and senators of parties in the governing coalition "to act like responsible persons".

Senator Viorel Badea of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) on Friday read out the Opposition's motion of censure against Prime Minister Victor Ponta called 'Victor Ponta - dismissed for excessive power by blocking elections. The right to vote is not sloganeering!'

In their motion, the Liberals call for a withdrawal of confidence in the Government.

Romania's parliament on Friday is to debate a no-confidence motion against the centre-left government of Victor Ponta, but its chances of success are seen as low.

The motion tabled by the opposition National Liberal Party, PNL, accuses Ponta and his Social Democratic Party of refusing to introduce postal votes for Romanians living abroad, amongst other things.

Premier Victor Ponta asked the ruling line up to be present this Friday in Parliament at the debate and vote on the censure motion filed by the National Liberal Party, voicing his conviction that the initiative of the opposition "won't go through."

France's ambassador in Bucharest, Francois Saint-Paul, said on Wednesday, in the context of the latest political evolutions, that France reasserts its attachment to the observance of the rule of law in Romania.

The National Liberal Party (PNL) proposes a reset of the political scene by organizing early elections, PNL Co-Chairperson Alina Gorghiu said on Wednesday, adding that the National Political Bureau of the PNL has endorsed a resolution in this respect.

Gorghiu said that Prime Minister Victor Ponta should resign from office.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on Wednesday he personally checked with the United States Embassy and confirmed his US diplomatic or tourist visas were not cancelled.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta said Tuesday evening that the same day he met ambassadors of EU member states as well as diplomatic representatives of the US and Canada in Bucharest to introduce his opinion on the current political state in Romania, adding that he was joined in his meetings by the chairs of the two chambers of Romania's Parliament.

Romania's Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday rejected the request of prosecutors from the Anti-Corruption Department, DNA, to investigate Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

There were 231 votes against the request and only 120 in favour, all from the opposition National Liberal Party, PNL.
