No link between Greece arrests and Belgium jihadists: Belgian prosecutor
No link has been established between at least four people arrested by Greek anti-terrorism police and a jihadist cell broken up this week in Belgium, the Belgian prosecutor's office said Jan. 18.
"There is no connection between these people and the enquiry" in Belgium, Eric Van Der Sypt, spokesman for the federal prosecutor's office, said.
Police make arrests in probe of link to Belgian Islamist cell
Greek police detained four people on Saturday over alleged links to an Islamist cell in Belgium, where two suspected terrorists were shot by officers on Thursday.
One of the men, aged 27 is alleged to have been in regular contact with the cell in the Belgian town of Verviers, where two extremists were killed and one arrested.

After Ahmed Merabet, a French policeman, was killed outside the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris last week, his brother Malek said: "My brother was Muslim and he was killed by two terrorists, by two false Muslims. Islam is a religion of peace and love."

Five people were charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist group in Belgium on Friday.
This comes after a series of anti-terrorist raids carried out by Belgian police on Thursday evening during which two suspects were killed, the BBC reports.
French Post Office Siege Ends with Surrender, No Casualties
The armed man, who took hostages at a post office in the French town of Colombes, has surrendered to the police with no casualties suffered.
The abductor, who was in the possession of military weapons, took at least two hostages at the post office of Colombes, north-west of Paris, the Guardian reports.
Russia says Muhammad cartoon publication illegal
Russia's media watchdog on Jan. 16 warned publications that printing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad was against the country's law and ethical norms following the Charlie Hebdo attack in France.
"The publication in Russian media of such caricatures go against ethical and moral norms worked out over centuries," said the media and communications watchdog Roskomnadzor.

Gunman Takes Hostages in Paris Post Office
A gunman has taken at least two people hostage at a post office in the Paris suburb of Colombes on Friday, according to French media reports.
The gunman claimed to be armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and grenades.
A helicopter was seen flying overhead the post office building in Colombes, about 10 km west of the centre of the French capital.

Belgian Terror Suspects Planned to Hijack Passenger Bus
The Belgian terrorists neutralized in a police raid in Verviers on Thursday had been planning to hijack a passenger bus and take hostages, according to local broadcaster RTL.
Two suspected jihadists were killed during the police operation and another one was seriously injured, according to reports of The Telegraph.
French post office hostage-taking ends, no victims
An armed man who earlier took several hostages at a post office northwest of Paris on Friday has surrendered with no one hurt, a French police official told Reuters.
The man equipped with a military weapon took an unconfirmed number of hostages at the post office in the town of Colombes, just outside the capital.
