Presumption

The conviction by an Albanian court of the elected mayor of Himare "heightens the concerns raised about the objectivity of the process," Greece's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, after an ethnic Greek was sentenced to two years in prison for buying votes.

The tax bill was passed by the plenary of the Parliament on Thursday, which means that professionals will be taxed for the year 2023 in a presumptive manner.

The minimum presumptive amount comes to 10,920 euros, which after 12 years of operation can rise to €14,196.

Penalties are draconian - the offender is threatened with a sentence of up to three years in prison, along with a money fine.

The controversy arose over the comments made by the president of the Commission Investigating Murders of Journalists, Veran Matic, on the trial for the murder of journalist Slavko Curuvija, Beta agency reported.

Matic said he regarded the initiative to introduce new criminal act - "with the aim of effectively protecting the presumption of innocence and independence of the court" - as "rather dangerous, as much as it is senseless, given that it is being proposed by the representatives of the legal profession, and as professionals in this field, they should know basic principles of human rights protectio

The decision establishes that databases from the (telephone) base stations had been obtained in a lawful manner and can be used as evidence.
