House rentals in Thessaloniki are now more expensive than in the center of Athens, although in both cases the rate hikes have been significant the last year, with the capital seeing a mean rise of 7.6%, per the latest annual report of RE/MAX Greece.

Police officer stabs his ex-girlfriend in Viotia
A 54-year-old police officer from Viotia, central Greece stabbed his ex-partner on Saturday, who was hospitalized in Livadeia Hospital in stable condition. According to state-broadcaster ERT, the incident occurred outside the Police Department of Paralia Distomou, where the woman went to report her former partner.

Tindersticks | Thessaloniki | February 13
Popular British alt rock act Tindersticks returns to Greece after a sold-out show in Athens last summer for a single concert at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall on Thursday, February 13. The band is touring Europe with its 11th album "No Treasure But Hope," released in November 2019. Tindersticks' first appearance in Greece was in 1995 and it has performed here 15 more times since then.

The Thessaloniki Concert Hall is screening a production of "One Man, Two Guvnors" live from the National Theatre in London on Saturday at 9 p.m. Based on Carlo Goldoni's "The Servant of Two Masters," the critically acclaimed comedy is directed by the National's artistic director, Nicholas Hytner, and stars James Corden. The screening is in English with Greek subtitles.

'Carmen' from the Met | Thessaloniki | February 2
The Thessaloniki Concert Hall will screen George Bizet's "Carmen" live in high-definition from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The French romance is directed by Sir Richard Eyre, conducted by Louis Langree and stars Clementine Margaine, Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna and Alexander Vinogradov. The performance is in the original French, with Greek surtitles. Doors open at 7.55 p.m.

Thieves target seafront waterfall in Thessaloniki
Sheets of bronze weighing 3.5 tons that covered an overflow channel for the waterfall at Thessaloniki's seafront Water Garden have reportedly vanished, local news reports said on Thursday.
According to Thanasis Pappas, the deputy mayor responsible for technical works and the environment, the theft likely occurred on Tuesday or Wednesday night.
