Ioannina’s last Auschwitz survivor passes
It was June 2007 in Ioannina, the capital of Epirus, when Zanet Nahmia, seated on her living room couch, reflected on all she had endured as a prisoner at Auschwitz. In a segment of that recorded interview, she pauses her narration to welcome her hometown peer, Nina Negrin, into the room. The two women had shared a common fate in the death camp.

Ursula Haverbeck was found guilty of incitement stemming from statements she made during the 2015 trial of former Nazi SS member Oskar Gröning, who served at Auschwitz.

The Greek Foreign Ministry marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Saturday, emphasizing the need to safeguard collective memory as a defense against racism and bigotry.
"We honor the victims of Nazi brutality, including tens of thousands of Greek Jews," the ministry said in a statement.
