Istanbul Airport serves over 317 mln passengers in 6 years

Türkiye's largest airport, iGA Istanbul Airport, named the best in Europe by "Global Traveler," has hosted over 317 million passengers since opening in 2018.

The airport covering a 76.5 square kilometers (29.5 square miles) area officially opened on Oct. 29, 2018, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish politicians, and international dignitaries in attendance.

Airports serve 155 million passengers in January-August

Total passenger traffic at Türkiye's airports increased by 8.3 percent in January-August from a year ago to 154.8 million, according to data from the General Directorate of State Airport Authorities (DHMİ).

International passengers grew 9.7 percent year-on-year to more than 90 million, domestic passengers rose 6.9 percent annually to 64.7 million.

At Istanbul Airport, a team of 20 professional climbers from diverse backgrounds is handling tasks in areas inaccessible by conventional means, such as elevating vehicles.

The team, including teachers, sociologists and archaeologists, has been specially trained and certified by internationally accredited organizations.

The number of passengers going through Türkiye's airports increased by 9.9 percent in the first seven months of 2024 to reach 129.6 million.

The international passenger tally rose by 11 percent annually in January-July to more than 70 million, according to data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ).

Air passenger traffic grows 12 percent in six months

Turkish airports served a total of 104.7 million passengers in the first half of 2024, marking an 11.8 percent increase from a year ago, data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) have shown.

The international passenger tally rose 13 percent year-on-year to 58.6 million, while domestic passengers increased 10.2 percent annually to 46.2 million.

Total passenger traffic at Turkish airports increased by 13 percent in the January-May period from a year ago reach more than 82 million, data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) have shown.

The international passenger tally rose by 14.4 percent to 44.9 million, while domestic passengers were up 11 percent annually to 37.1 million.
