Dionysos water alert: Overchlorination found in Stamata tank

Overchlorination in the Stamata water tank has been found by Municipality of Dionysos inspections, resulting in the water being unfit for use until further notice.

As the municipality announced, “The over-chlorination was detected as part of regular water quality checks and the restoration process has already been initiated.”

Fires: No active front in Stamata, scattered outbreaks in Keratea

Firefighters were tested on a double front in Attica today, as two major fires broke out within hours of each other in Keratea and Stamata. The battle was difficult, since on the one hand the fire fronts were in residential areas that had to be evacuated, while the weather conditions were extreme and favoured the fires.

A fire broke out shortly after 4 PM on Sunday (June 30) in Stamata, Dionysos, in a forested area.

The fire is near homes, and aerial units, ground forces, and earth-moving machines have rushed to the scene, with strong winds complicating the firefighting efforts.

Wildfires blaze near Athens; flames engulf homes, cars

Two large wildfires were blazing in Attica Sunday afternoon. The earliest, south of the town of Keratea, has already burned through homes and cars, but no casualties had been reported as of 5.20 p.m. local.

Torrential rain floods homes in northern Athens

The Athens fire department said it received 120 emergency calls from flooded homes on Tuesday after heavy rain in northern Attica, which was particularly intense in the regions of Dionysos, Drosia, Stamata and Aghios Stefanos.

Torrential rain also hit other parts of the country, causing landslides and floods on the central Aegean island of Skopelos.

Fire brigade at Stamata battles to save homes from fire

A fire broke out in the residential area of Stamata shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The fire report states that the fire is burning pine trees and shrubs in the area, 1 km from the main town on the road towards Marathon.

Firemen are concerned over the heavy winds in the region though by 12.15 p.m. they managed to get the fire under control.

Rescue workers pull man's body out of Attica well

Rescue workers on Tuesday retrieved the body of a 54-year-old man from the bottom of a well in Stamata, eastern Attica.

A rescue effort involving five fire engines and 12 firefighters was launched after locals reported the man’s fall.

It remained unclear how the 54-year-old fell into the 17-meter-deep well.
