The system of management in universities was designed with good intentions, aiming to end the introversion of the institutions. However, since it was tested in practice, it has been marked by serious malfunctions - with the University of Western Attica being the latest example. 

Lockdown measures that went into force on November 7 appear to be bearing fruit as the number of new coronavirus infections drops, but it is unlikely they will be eased next week, Alkiviadis Vatopoulos, a professor of microbiology and one of the experts on the government's advisory committee, said on Tuesday.

Several student organizations have called a rally on Monday outside the historic building of Athens University on Panepistimiou Street in order to protest plans by the Education Ministry to create a new university.

Hundreds of students were gathered outside the Education Ministry in the northern Athens suburb of Maroussi on Thursday protesting plans to merge state technical colleges (TEI) with the country's universities.
