After 60% votes counted, Logar and Pirc Musar to face off in the runoff
Ljubljana, 23 October – Partial results after nearly 60% of votes counted put former Democrats (SDS) foreign minister Anže Logar and lawyer Nataša Pirc Musar in the second round of the presidential election. The former netted some 34% and the latter 27%.
Freedom Movement approves merger with LMŠ, SAB
Ljubljana – The senior coalition Freedom Movement approved with more than 90% of votes mergers with the non-parliamentary parties the Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) and the Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB) in an online congress on Monday.

Opposition pledges constructive but firm action
Ljubljana – The two conservative parties that moved to opposition after the 24 April general election have promised not to abuse parliamentary tools at their disposal, but will use them when necessary, also to fight against the coalition’s “misconceptions”.

Opposition rebukes some ministerial nominees, parts of coalition agreement
Ljubljana – The opposition has presented a critical take on some ministerial candidates in parliament on Wednesday while expressing fears about measures it sees as reminiscent of the socialist era.
Presenting the Democrat (SDS) deputy group’s position, Anže Logar, the outgoing foreign minister, noted that Robert Golob wanted to form a government quickly.
Parsifal poll has SDS in lead
Ljubljana – The final pre-election poll by pollster Parisfal brought only minor changes compared to a week ago, still putting the Democrats (SDS) ahead of the Freedom Movement and the SocDems. New Slovenia (NSi), the Left and Connecting Slovenia are projected to make it to parliament too, while the LMŠ, SAB, Resni.ca, Our Land, SNS and DeSUS are not.

European People’s Party endorses SDS, NSi
Ljubljana/Medvode – Manfred Weber, chair of the European People’s Party (EPP) in the European Parliament, endorsed the Democrats (SDS) and New Slovenia (NSi) as he came to Slovenia on Tuesday, just days before the official end of the campaign for Sunday’s general election.

MPs endorse bill to step up work after pension age
Ljubljana – MPs endorsed on Tuesday a government-sponsored act that temporarily increases the scope of temporary or casual work available for pensioners to help the labour market recover in the wake of Covid-19. The government says the proposal will help mitigate labour shortages, whereas a part of the opposition believes the solution comes too late.

Vox populi poll: Freedom Movement leads ahead of SDS
Ljubljana – The latest Vox Populi poll by Ninamedia sees the Freedom Movement party headed by Robert Golob in leads as it is preferred by 23.9% of the respondents, followed by the ruling Democrats (SDS) with 21.2%.
