Opening up education

The details of the regulatory framework that will allow the establishment of private, not-for-profit universities have been ironed out and settled. The reform can now take shape.

It is a crucial challenge for the quality and extroversion of Greek higher education, as well as for public education, for which new possibilities are opening up.

Extroversion and bureaucracy

The establishment of foreign-language university departments was a necessary step for the extroversion of Greek universities.

But it seems that, apart from academic preparation, no care had been taken regarding to how interested students from abroad could secure their student visa and accommodation in the country.

€62 million to support the internationalisation of the educational services of Greek universities

The project “Internationalisation of educational services of higher education institutions” of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sport is launched. It will be supported with a budget of 62 million euros.

The management of universities

The system of management in universities was designed with good intentions, aiming to end the introversion of the institutions. However, since it was tested in practice, it has been marked by serious malfunctions - with the University of Western Attica being the latest example. 

Democritus University of Thrace: Member of the European University EMERGE

The Democritio University of Thrace (DUTH) has become a member of the European University EMERGE, which is a great academic distinction as it will now participate in the group of European university alliances.

The European Strategy looks forward to the creation of 60 European University Alliances with the participation of at least 500 universities by mid-2024.

The results of the annual, nationwide university entrance exams can serve as an X-ray, if you will, of Greek state universities.

The devaluation of certain higher education institutions, which students can gain admission to even if they score below par, exposes the structural flaws in the academic structure.
