Margarita Mikhneva, a pioneering figure in Bulgarian investigative journalism, has passed away at the age of 72 in Geneva, Switzerland, following a prolonged battle with cancer. Her death was confirmed by the Focus news agency.

From the 19th of June, BNT (Bulgarian National Television) started broadcasting a news program "Around the world and in our country" in Ukrainian.

The broadcasts in Ukrainian can be watched online - on the BNT website and on social networks.

The anchor of the news is Maria Plachkova.

10 years after its launch, the University TV "Alma Mater" is about to become a true TV network dedicated exclusively to education and culture, reports sega. 

BNT programs attracted only 1 per cent of TV advertising in 2017, according to data from the media agency. According to the survey, the total volume of television advertising in Bulgaria last year was 691 million euros. In fact, the amount is certainly significantly lower, as the measurement does not take account of concessions, barters and other agreements that televisions conclude.

Bulgarian satellite services provider NURTS has concluded a partnership deal with Eutelsat Communications to help Bulgarian public television BNT broadcast its cultural and news channel to Europe.

Eutelsat will use the Eutelsat 7B satellite to broadcast BNT World over Europe, NURTS said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

Hungary has sentenced a Bulgarian national to a year and a half in jail for illegal traffic of migrants, the Sofia-based BNT TV channel reported on Tuesday, citing a Hungarian newspaper report.

The Bulgarian man, whose name was not disclosed, had reportedly attempted to smuggle nine Syrian refugees from Hungary into Germany by mini bus, according to BNT.

Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) leader Lyutvi Mestan has lashed out at an agreement reached between two of the government-related entities last week to move news bulletins in Turkish from the public broadcaster's national program.

The nationalist coalition called Patriotic Front (PF) will give the ruling axis 100 days to have Turkish- language news off the air.  

For weeks the PF has been insisting the broadcasts, which have been aired for about fifteen years on the public broadcaster Bulgarian National Television's BNT1 channel, should be rescheduled.

Proposals to reschedule news broadcasts in Turkish hosted by the Bulgarian National Television are dangerous, Movement of Rights and Freedoms (DPS) head Lyutvi Mestan said on Tuesday.

The Macedonian Radio & Television (MRT) and the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) are to sign a contract for broadcasting their programs on the territory of the two countries.

An agreement on the right to broadcast the programs of the two media outlets is to be signed in Ohrid, according to the Macedonian Information Agency (MIA).
