Amazon forest loses area the size of Germany and France

The Amazon rainforest has lost an area about the size of Germany and France combined to deforestation in four decades, fueling drought and record wildfires across South America, experts have said.

Third Slovenian satellite launched in space

Kourou/Maribor – Trisat-R, a nanosatellite developed at Slovenia’s University of Maribor, was launched in space just after 3pm in French Guiana. It was carried into space aboard Vega-C, a new European launch vehicle, as the third Slovenian satellite to date. Stakeholders watched the launch at an event the university organised in Maribor.

Kourou – The latest Slovenian satellite to be sent into space, the Trisat-R, has been delivered from Maribor to French Guiana, where it is scheduled to be launched on the VEGA-C rocket on 7 July. Its main purpose are measurements of ionising radiation in the medium Earth orbit to model the magnetospheric environment and better understand space weather.

 Bulgaria is among the countries with the oldest population in the European Union in 2019, according to data from the European statistical office Eurostat.

21.3% of Bulgarians last year were aged 65 and over. Among the elderly in our country the largest is the share of those aged 75 and over - 618,008 people, according to Eurostat.

Hellas Sat 4 successfully launched

An Ariane 5 heavy lift rocket propelled the Hellas Sat 4 satellite from French Guiana in South America to a geostationary orbit late Tuesday.

Hellas Sat is a Greek and Cyprus satellite communications solutions provider founded in 2001 and acquired by Arabsat in 2013. Arabsat is based in Saudi Arabia and is considered to be the 6th largest satellite operator in the world.
