Preliminary European election results expected by 9 p.m. Sunday

A preliminary estimate of the European Parliament election results is expected around 9 p.m. on Sunday, two hours after the ballots close, Interior Ministry Secretary-General Nasos Balerbas told Antenna TV on Monday.

He added that information on whether minor parties surpass the 3 percent threshold, allowing them to elect an MEP, will be available later in the day.

Nasos Balerbas, secretary-general of the Interior Ministry, will replace in the coming days another ministry official who resigned over a data breach scandal in which emails were sent to diaspora voters by a Conservative European Parliamentarian, Kathimerini understands.

The issue of personal data and how easily it can be leaked has come to the fore again with a conservative MEP allegedly breaking the law. 

Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou's office sent emails last Friday with campaign material to Greeks living overseas, several of whom claimed that they had never authorized the use of their personal information.
