New Law in Bulgaria Allows Free Class Actions Against Merchants

Bulgaria is poised to implement significant changes to its Consumer Protection Act, aligning with EU Directive (EU) 2020/1828 to empower consumers in collective legal actions against merchants. Under the proposed amendments, not only consumer associations but also the Consumer Protection Commission and designated qualified organizations can file representative claims for damages.

Compliance with legality, consumer protection are gov’t’s highest priority

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis referred on Monday to the issue of consumer protection, saying "consistent with what we have said and what the prime minister has personally committed to, compliance with legality in all fields and consumer protection are issues of the highest priority for the government. It is a continuous process and no exception will be made to it.

E-platform for consumer complaints

The Development and Investment Ministry on Wednesday launched the digital platform kataggelies.mindev.gov.gr, where consumers can submit complaints, in order to more effectively control phenomena such as overcharging, fake discounts and other violations at the expense of consumers in the market.

Popova: "One should not consume alcohol for two weeks before or after immunization"

This was stated by the Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being, Rospotrebnadzor, Dr Ana Popova.
"Alcohol consumption must stop at least two weeks before immunization, and those who receive the first dose must abstain from alcohol for the next 42 days," Popova told Radio Kosmolskaja pravda on Tuesday.
