Türkiye helps evacuate over 2,000 foreigners from Lebanon

Türkiye has helped evacuate 2,120 foreigners from Lebanon amid Israel's ongoing attacks, diplomatic sources said on Oct. 16.

The evacuees, who hailed from 21 countries including the U.S., Russia, Japan and Palestine, reached their respective destinations by air through Türkiye, the sources told local media.

Türkiye brings home evacuees from Lebanon

The first amphibious warfare ship of the Turkish Naval Forces, carrying civilians evacuated from Lebanon, arrived at Türkiye's southern port of Mersin on Thursday.

The TCG Bayraktar departed from Beirut, where the evacuation took place, and docked at the port of Mersin, bringing 588 evacuees who will disembark after procedures are completed.

Türkiye inaugurates Çukurova International Airport

Türkiye's 58th airport, Çukurova International Airport, was inaugurated in the southern province of Mersin on Aug. 10, with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In addition to passenger transportation, the airport will also have a multiplier effect on the exports of the region, Erdoğan said, noting that it will create 3,000 jobs.

Turkish police arrest an ISIS suspect who worked at nuclear power plant

Counterterrorism police in Turkey have arrested an Islamic State group suspect who was working at a nuclear power plant being built in the country's south, local media reported Tuesday.

The Russian national had been working at the Akkuyu nuclear facility under false identity papers, the Ihlas News Agency and other media reported.

CHP, MHP unveil comprehensive mayoral slates for local polls

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) have revealed extensive slates of mayoral candidates in a move ahead of the March 31 local elections.

The CHP's announcement, following a party assembly meeting on Jan. 10, presented mayoral candidates for six pivotal metropolitan cities.
