Capital district bans signs in foreign languages

The municipal council of Keçiören, a district in the capital Ankara, has unanimously approved a proposal to ban the use of signs written in foreign languages.

A statement released by the municipality on May 3 highlighted the unanimous decision to prohibit the use of foreign language signs and to mandate the use of only Turkish language signboards.

Turgut Altınok named AKP's mayoral candidate for Ankara

Turgut Altınok, the current mayor of Ankara's Keçiören district, has been officially unveiled as the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) metropolitan mayoral candidate for the capital.

The announcement came today as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revealed the AKP's candidates for 48 cities, including 17 metropolitan areas.

Minister visits country’s largest hospital for inspections before launch

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has paid a visit to Etlik City Hospital, a health center in the capital Ankara which will be the country's largest hospital based on field size, to conduct inspections before it is opened to service officially.

"We visited the hospital to inspect the latest preparations before the opening," Fahrettin Koca tweeted on Aug. 18.

Blast at apartment building in Turkey’s capital leaves 2 dead, 4 wounded

An explosion early on Nov. 19 in an apartment building in Turkey's capital has left two people dead and four others wounded, an official said. 

Speaking to reporters at the site in Keçiören district, Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin said a child and her father were killed in the blast, which caused part of the building to collapse.
