The municipal council of Keçiören, a district in the capital Ankara, has unanimously approved a proposal to ban the use of signs written in foreign languages.

A statement released by the municipality on May 3 highlighted the unanimous decision to prohibit the use of foreign language signs and to mandate the use of only Turkish language signboards.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has unveiled his ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) district mayor candidates in Ankara for the upcoming local elections scheduled for March 31.

Turgut Altınok, the current mayor of Ankara's Keçiören district, has been officially unveiled as the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) metropolitan mayoral candidate for the capital.

The announcement came today as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revealed the AKP's candidates for 48 cities, including 17 metropolitan areas.

The capital Ankara has been hit by sudden downpours and hail, leading to flooding and chaos on the streets for citizens and drivers.

Torrential rains have paralyzed daily life in Türkiye, while vehicles were submerged in rainwater and floods damaged citizens' properties in several provinces.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has paid a visit to Etlik City Hospital, a health center in the capital Ankara which will be the country's largest hospital based on field size, to conduct inspections before it is opened to service officially.

"We visited the hospital to inspect the latest preparations before the opening," Fahrettin Koca tweeted on Aug. 18.

A young woman named Busenur Doğanay, residing on a basement floor in Ankara's Keçiören district, has died due to floods that occurred after a heavy downpour in the city, Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin has said, adding that the search for the missing person continues.

The streets of the capital Ankara's two districts, Yenimahalle and Keçiören, flooded on June 7 following perpetual downpours throughout the day.

The water level reached 1 meter in some parts, causing material damage, especially in houses and offices on the ground floors.

An explosion early on Nov. 19 in an apartment building in Turkey's capital has left two people dead and four others wounded, an official said. 

Speaking to reporters at the site in Keçiören district, Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin said a child and her father were killed in the blast, which caused part of the building to collapse.
