Turkish minister blasts meteorologist's comment about possible extreme heatwave in Istanbul

Forestry and Waterworks Minister Veysel Eroğlu has criticized the comments of a meteorologist about a possible extreme heatwave in Istanbul on July 30.

Eroğlu blasted Professor Mikdat Kadıoğlu, saying "scientists do not claim, they prove."

Probe launched into deadly accidents involving armored police vehicles in Turkey's southeast

Administrative and legal investigations have been launched into two traffic accidents involving armored police vehicles that led to the deaths of seven civilians in the Lice district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. 

The Diyarbakır Governor's Office stated that an inspector has asked to be assigned to the case from the Interior Ministry, Doğan News Agency reported. 

PKK splinter group claims responsibility for Diyarbakır bomb attack

The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), a splinter group from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), claimed responsibility on Nov. 6 for a bomb attack that occurred in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır early on Nov. 4, which killed 11 people and wounded hundreds. 

Six convicted PKK militants break out of Diyarbak?r prison

Six convicted militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have broken out of a D-Type prison in the southeastern province of Diyabak?r amid ongoing counterterror operations in the province. 

The sextet were reported missing from the Diyarbak?r D-Type prison in the Kayap?nar district following a roll call on the morning of March 6. 

EU parliamentarians to visit southeastern Turkey

A delegation from the European Parliament's (EP) Socialist Group, including EU Turkey rapporteur Kati Piri, is set to pay a visit Feb. 19 to the Sur district of southeastern Diyarbak?r province, where the clashes between the security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants have been ongoing for months.
