Rogan wine wins silver in France
BELGRADE - Rogan, a family winery based in Lipovac, near Oplenac, central Serbia, has won a silver medal at an international competition in France for its Shiraz wine, the Belgrade-based Centre for Wine Culture said in a statement on Friday.
The Syrah du Monde international wine competition, renowned for its reliable criteria, featured 405 wine makers from 26 countries, and the judges awarded 42 gold and 94 silver medals.
No Serbian wine has ever won a medal at the prestigious wine competition, the owners of the Rogan winery said.
Only a few months ago, the young winery's Chardonnay also won one bronze medal at France's Chardonnay du Monde, another prestigious competition.
Notable standouts among the world's best producers of Shiraz wines were this year's winner South Africa and runner-up Bulgaria, followed by Australia, Macedonia, France and Turkey.
France, which made it into the Top 10, won two gold medals, with South Africa topping the list, the Centre said, announcing that the first Sumadija Wine Festival, to be held in Topola, has been postponed until June 14-15.
