Elderly man remanded in custody over son's murder

A 75-year-old man accused of the murder of his son 39-year-old son whose burned remains were discovered in a car near the town of Astros in the Peloponnese last Friday was remanded in custody on Thursday after defending himself before an investigating magistrate in Nafplio.

The man's wife, 67, who allegedly denied any involvement in the death of her son, was released after posting a 6,000-euro bail payment.

The 75-year-old is said to have told judicial officials that the 39-year-old had made life hell for him and his wife, beating and bullying them for money over the years.

Another three relatives have been questioned in connection with the killing and released pending trial.
