Guardian: Talks over Parthenon Sculptures ‘well advanced,’ but not on Tuesday’s agenda
Discussions between Greece and the British Museum on the Parthenon Sculptures are "well advanced," although the issue will not be on the British prime minister's agenda when he meets with Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday, the Guardian reported.
Mitsotakis will be in London on Tuesday for talks with Keir Starmer during which he plans to emphasize the cultural and historical case for reunification, asserting that the sculptures "belong in their natural home" at the Acropolis Museum, according to the Greek government.
But the issue will not be actively raised by either side, according to a Downing Street spokesperson on Monday: "Our position on the Elgin marbles has not changed… His [Starmer's] focus will be on support for Ukraine and the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
