France praises Serbia's progress in EU integration
BELGRADE - Chair of the French parliament foreign affairs committee Elisabeth Guigou praised on Friday Serbia's progress in EU integration.
Guigou, who met at the Serbian parliament with head of the foreign affairs committee Aleksandra Djurovic to discuss Serbia's progress in EU integration, stressed that the role of the parliament was not only to pass reform laws, but to also control their implementation, as well as to maintain a permanent dialogue with the people and the civil society.
Djuric thanked France for its suuport to Serbia's EU integration, pointing out that there was a consensus within the parliament about EU integration, according to a release from the parliament.
The Serbian parliament adopted in December 2013 a resolution on the role of the parliament and guidelines for the accession negotiations with the EU, which included the parliament and all relevant committees in the accession talks, Djurovic noted.
In terms of EU integration, Djurovic also stressed the significance of regional cooperation between the countries of the Western Balkans, adding that Serbia was active in all the regional initiatives.
The two officials talked also about their experiences related to how well women are represented in the two parliaments and what positions they hold.
Deputy chair of the Serbian parliament committee Dijana Vukomanovic, member of the committee Aleksandra Tomic and French Ambassador to Serbia Christine Moro also attended the meeting.
