Liviu Pop: ILO could have foremost role if involved in political support

The role of the International Labour Organization (ILO) could be foremost if it became the core of political support and technical assistance that can be granted to member states, Minister Delegate for Social Dialogue Liviu Pop said on Monday, in the 323rd Session of the ILO Governing Body, taking place in Geneva.

"One of the priorities of the International Labour Organization is the promotion of decent labour for everyone. Its trifold structure represents the promotion platform of decent labour, as one of the four fundamental objectives, together with the promotion of rights in labour, social protection and social dialogue. In this period of major economic and social challenges, the role of the International Labour Organisation could be a foremost one if it got involved in the core of political support and technical assistance it can grant to member states, Liviu Pop said, according to a release remitted to AGERPRES.

In his speech, Minister Liviu Pop underscored that Romania's Government is in favour of an efficient mechanism of implementing and assessing the impact of policies on the labour market, taking into account that social dialogue is essential for the improvement of this process.

The Minister Delegate for Social Dialogue added that the documents submitted to debate, such as the one on which there was the richest opinion exchange among the participants, can provide the mandators, namely to Romania's Government, in approaching various economic problems, knowledge, means of action or orientations in putting into practice some strategies included in the current governance programme.
