Civil aviation strike on Sunday, Monday unlikely to affect flights
There will be only minor disruption to flights over the long weekend due to a 48-hour strike by the Federation of Civil Aviation Authority Unions (OSYPA), authorities said on Thursday.
The strike is planned for Sunday and Monday, which is a public holiday due to Pentecost. OSYPA said it is taking the action to protest the lack of investment in the service, including maintenance of equipment and staff shortages. It also claims that some employees are owed wages since last spring.
Alternate Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Christos Spritzis said the government has set aside 1 million euros to address operational issues at regional airports and will hire 32 people to help cover shortages in the civil aviation service. He insisted there would be no implications for flight safety as a result of the strike.
