Elçi is seen just before he was shot dead.

A curfew was declared in the southeastern town of Sur, where the Diyarbak?r Bar Association head Tahir Elçi was killed early on Nov. 28.

Diyarbat?r Governor's Office said Elçi and one policeman were killed in a gun attack as two officials were wounded.

"This incident shows how righteous is Turkey in its determination in struggle against terrorism,"

President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said in a speech in Bal?kesir, vowing to continue the struggle until the end.

Elçi and accompanying lawyers made a press meeting on the damage of the earlier clashes in Sur before the gun shots were heard.

Elçi was first detained by police in Diyarbak?r late on Oct. 19 and was released on probation on Oct. 20, but he was barred from traveling out of Turkey.
