Olympiakos 'winter champion' as AEK stumbles at home
Olympiakos took advantage of AEK's slip-up at home to finish first at the halfway point of the Super League season and earn the unofficial title of the winter champion.
AEK was held to a goalless draw at home on Saturday by Apollon, whose new manager Giorgos Paraschos managed to organize the visitors' defense well enough to frustrate the Yellows at the Olympic Stadium.
Less than 24 hours later Olympiakos also felt frustrated against PAS Giannina at home, but it managed to break the deadlock three minutes past the hour mark via Marko Marin and hold on to a precious 1-0 that has taken the Reds to 32 points.
AEK is on 31, along with PAOK that scored a 1-0 win at bottom team Platanias through a Stelios Malezas 56th-minute strike.
