Sixty-six new cases of viral gastroenteritis were reported in Ηania, Crete, in the past 24 hours, Agios Georgios Hospital manager, Giorgos Beas, told Kathimerini on Thursday.

He said that seven of the patients were children aged 2 to 15.

"Gastroenteritis is spreading fast right now and it's the biggest outbreak we've had in a while," he added.

These new cases are in addition to the 67 recorded in the previous two days, bringing the total number to 133.

A significant number of those affected are students from Crete's Polytechnic University, which has temporarily closed its dining hall.

As of now, none of the patients have been hospitalized.
