New tool for climate crisis

The Environment Ministry has commissioned the Athens Academy and other institutions to create a national climate database that will allow Greek authorities to better predict extreme weather events.

Bringing together the expertise and know-how of the National Observatory of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, among others, the database will also allow authorities to map trends and improve medium- and long-term policy planning both at the environmental and civil protection level.

The project is expected to take 20 months to complete and has a budget of 1.65 million euros, which is being covered by the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency.
