Sky Express’ Iraklio-Paris flights to continue through November

Sky Express will continue operating two direct flights per week from Paris to Iraklio on Crete until the end of November, extending the tourist season into the winter months.

This initiative creates an opportunity for French travelers to visit one of Greece's most popular destinations during the off-peak season.

Teenage holidaymaker files rape complaint in Crete

A 16-year-old British girl vacationing on Crete with her parents has filed a complaint with police in the prefecture of Iraklio, saying she was raped at a bar on Wednesday night.

The teenager, who was at the bar in the popular seaside resort of Mali with her parents, told police that she was attacked in the restroom. 

Boat with 33 migrants found south of Crete

A boat with 33 migrants on board was located by a cargo ship off the southern coast of Crete early Friday morning.

Twenty eight of the migrants, four of whom are minors, said they were Egyptian nationals. Passengers also included a family of four, made up of a pregnant woman and two children, who said they were from Syria.

Quake drill held on tourist island of Crete

"Exercise, exercise, exercise", read an emergency text message which alerted people on the island of Crete of a mock earthquake measuring 7.2 magnitude off the city of Iraklio.

Tourists rushed to evacuate the hotel, while workers in vests offered first aid to an injured woman in a tent as part of a quake drill dubbed "Minoas" after the mythical Cretan Bronze Age king.

Aegean adds fourth daily flight to London Heathrow

Aegean Airlines has secured another slot at London's Heathrow airport and is adding to its schedule a fourth daily flight from Athens to the UK's busiest international hub, it said on Tuesday.

The new flight will operate every day throughout the year except on Saturdays, leaving Athens at 4 p.m. local time and London/Heathrow at 7 p.m. local time.

Woman in Crete scares off would-be store robber with rolling pin

A 67-year-old woman in the town of Iraklio, Crete, prevented a robbery in her convenience store by using a rolling pin to scare off the suspect.

The would-be robber, who remains at large, entered her store on Kalokairinos Avenue holding a long knife in his hands and tried to remove the money from the cash register.
