Tributes to victims of Novi Sad accident marred by incidents

NOVI SAD/BELGRADE - At the invitation of opposition parties and some civic initiatives, groups of people gathered in Belgrade, Novi Sad and other Serbian cities on Friday to block the streets for 15 minutes in tributes to the victims of the Novi Sad railway station accident, but this resulted in several incidents involving people disgruntled with traffic halts.

Dacic: Gendarmerie has convinced people it will not back down in fight against crime

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic attended a Gendarmerie Day ceremony at the Diving Unit Base in New Belgrade on Thursday.

Dacic said the Gendarmerie had convinced the people it would not back down in the fight against crime and all challenges that could potentially threaten national security.

The cause of the fire at the Chinese mall is still unknown, with huge black smoke and flames billowing from the mall.
Ministry of the Internal Affairs received a report about the fire at 6:57 a.m. A total of 46 firefighters-rescuers, with 13 vehicles, were sent to the scene from New Belgrade, Zemun, Koutnjak, Vodovac, and Zvezdara.

Today in Serbia, elections are being held for members of the Assembly of Serbia and the Assembly of Vojvodina, as well as local elections in 65 municipalities and cities, including Belgrade.
Vladimir Dimitrijevi said tonight that according to the law, the preliminary voting results will be announced within 24 hours from the closing of the polling stations.
